Before colour was synthesized in a lab using petroleum products, humans found colour in the landscape of plants, animals and minerals. In this age of searching for solutions to climate change and shifting our dependence from fossil fuels, I have been re-imagining my art practice and re-discovering color from natural pigments and dyes. These paintings are experiments in the use of indigo, cochineal, weld, bone black, crushed rocks, and local berries and flowers such as aronia berry, tansy and goldenrod.
