artist made pigments

I am currently working towards an artist specific palette using foraged and recycled materials. Exploring sustainable ways to create art, I search for color in the landscape, either mineral or plant based. I create pigments by grinding rock ochres or charred bones in a mortar and pestle and boiling plant material to extract the “ink”. There are several binders I experiment with such as gum arabic, egg yolk, walnut oil, honey, beeswax and cherry sap.
